Eine Preisvergabe der besonderen Art fand am Freitag in zwölf Metern Tiefe statt. Das Baltic Reef Nienhagen wurde passenderweise bei einem Tauchgang als »Ort der Idee« ausgezeichnet.

ROSTOCK / NIENHAGEN Wer bei dieser besonderen Preisübergabe dabei sein wollte, musste sich entweder in die Tiefen der Ostsee wagen oder den Live-Stream im Internet verfolgen. Denn der Preis »Ort der Idee« wurde dem Baltic Reef Nienhagen stilecht unter Wasser verliehen. Die Seestation der Landesforschungsanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Fischerei Mecklenburg-Vorpommern erhielt die Auszeichnung im Rahmen des Wettbewerbs »365 Orte im Land der Ideen«. Thomas Sawatzki von der Deutschen Bank übergab den Preis im Tauchgang an Projektleiter Thomas Mohr.
Mit einem Boot ging es für alle Beteiligten hinaus aufs offene Meer. Trotz anfänglicher Bedenken hinsichtlich des Windes verlief die Fahrt ohne Turbulenzen und nach einer guten Stunde wurde die auffällige gelbe Plattform, die sieben Meter über der Meeresoberfläche ragt und damit das künstlich angelegte Riff erreicht. Dieses befindet sich etwa 1,5 Kilometer entfernt vom Ufer bei Nienhagen. 2002 wurde das Großriff errichtet um dazu beizutragen, die Fischbestände in den küstennahen Gewässern des Landes zu erhalten. Denn das Riff bietet Platz und Nahrung für viele Meeresbewohner. Außerdem soll es zeigen, dass künstlich angelegte Bereiche im Meer durchaus zu mehr Artenvielfalt unter Wasser beitragen.
Eine Vielzahl an Forschungsergebnissen wurde dort in den letzten Jahren erarbeitet. Um diese der breiten Masse näher zu bringen, haben die Mitglieder des Projekts eine Vision: Eine Seestation in Form eines Seesterns soll sowohl Forschern als auch Besuchern vielfältige Möglichkeiten bieten. Wissenschaftler können hautnah am Objekt sein, wenn sie ihrer Arbeit nachgehen. Schulklassen, Familien und Wissbegierige jeden Alters können sich ausgiebig und abwechslungsreich informieren. »Wir erzielen mit unserer Forschung viele interessante Ergebnisse, die auch über die Grenzen des Landes hinaus bekannt werden sollten«, erzählt Uwe Friedrich, Mitglied des Vereins »Baltic Reef e.V.«, während der Fahrt zum Riff. Um der heutigen Generation Wissen zu vermitteln, müsse man auch ihre Sprache sprechen, daher soll die Seestation auch sehr interaktiv gestaltet werden. »Mit Broschüren erreicht man heutzutage zu wenige Leute«, glaubt Friedrich. Die Kinder sollen das Wissen durch Spiele vermittelt bekommen, außerdem sollen die Info-Grafiken der Seestation für jedermann verständlich mit Gestik gesteuert werden.

Für diese Projektidee wurde »Baltic Reef e.V.« von der Standortinitiative »Deutschland – Land der Ideen« unter der Schirmherrschaft von Bundespräsidenten Christian Wulff ausgezeichnet. Jedes Jahr werden in diesem Rahmen 365 Orte in Deutschland für ihre besonderen Ideen prämiert. 2005 wurde der Wettbewerb im Rahmen der Vorbereitungen zur Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2006 ins Leben gerufen und pünktlich zum Sommermärchen erstmals vergeben. »Die Deutschen sollten wissen und auch zeigen, dass sie ein Volk sind, das Tag für Tag tolle Ideen hat«, so Hermann von Blomberg. Auch er war als Vertreter der Deutschen Bank, Kooperationspartner von »Land der Ideen«, bei der Preisverleihung anwesend, wagte sich jedoch nicht unter Wasser. Allerdings kletterte er mit auf die Plattform, um das Abtauchen von oben herab zu beobachten und um sich ein Bild der aktuellen Forschungsstation zu machen. Dort werden die künstlichen Riffe mit Kameras beobachtet und Ergebnisse ausgewertet, die dann in der Seestation den Besuchern anschaulich bereit gestellt werden sollen. Diese Vision war eine von 2600 Ideen, die dieses Jahr eingereicht wurden. Eine unabhängige Jury kürt die 365 Gewinner und damit laut Blomberg »jeden Tag eine Idee, auf die das Land stolz sein kann.«
Nachdem der Preis übergeben wurde, nutzte Sawatzki die Gelegenheit und erkundete das Riff noch ein wenig aus nächster Nähe. Anschließend ging es bei mittlerweile strahlendem Sonnenschein zurück in den Hafen. Am 28.10.2011 folgt in den Räumlichkeiten der Gemeinde des Ostseebades Nienhagen die Präsentation einer Machbarkeitsstudie zur möglichen Umsetzung der Projektidee. »Es ist also nicht nur eine Auszeichnung für unsere Einrichtung am Wettbewerb teilzunehmen, sondern wir konnten durch die Prämierung die Studie viel schneller als erhofft auf den Weg bringen und haben damit unsere Visionen der Umsetzung einen Schritt näher gebracht«, ist Projektleiter Mohr überzeugt.
