Die Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) bewirbt für die Exzellenzinitiative des Bundes und der Länder. Derzeit wird eine erfolgreiche Strategie für ein Zukunftskonzept erarbeitet. Darin präsentiert sich die CAU als Hochschule der verbundenen Wissenschaften.
KIEL Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft und der Wissenschaftsrat haben im März bundesweit die zweite Phase der Exzellenzinitiative des Bundes und der Länder eröffnet. Im Vergleich zur ersten Runde 2006 und 2007 stehen jetzt mit 2,7 Milliarden Euro insgesamt 30 Prozent mehr Mittel zur Verfügung. An den Universitäten in Deutschland soll Spitzenforschung weiter gestärkt werden. Die erfolgreichsten Hochschulen werden zu Eliteuniversitäten ernannt und erhalten umfangreiche finanzielle Förderungen.

Darin präsentiert sich die CAU als Hochschule der verbundenen Wissenschaften. Bisher gibt es bundesweit nur neun Zukunftsuniversitäten. Als erster Bewerbungsschritt wird am 30. April der Letter of Intent bei der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft eingereicht.
Professor Fouquet, Präsident der CAU, hebt hervor: “Die CAU fördert besonders vernetztes Denken und Handeln in interdisziplinären Kooperationen. Es werden innovative Konzepte erarbeitet und umgesetzt. In den letzten Jahren gelang der Hochschule ein steiler Aufstieg. Allein in den Jahren 2004 bis 2009 gelang es, die Höhe der eingeworbenen Drittmittel von 45 auf 93 Millionen Euro zu verdoppeln. Damit werden derzeit mehr als 750 Mitarbeiterstellen an der CAU finanziert.”
Die Exzellenzinitiative umfasst die drei Förderlinien: 1. Graduiertenschulen zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses; 2. Exzellenzcluster zur Förderung der Spitzenforschung und 3. Zukunftskonzepte, mit denen ganze Universitäten den projektbezogenen Ausbau ihrer Spitzenforschung vorantreiben wollen. Die CAU beteiligt sich in allen drei Förderlinien. Bisher hat die Universität Kiel die zwei Forschungscluster The Future Ocean und Inflammation at Interfaces sowie eine hervorragende Graduiertenschule. Mit einem weiteren Forschungscluster Materials for Life und der Fortsetzung der drei erfolgreich bestehenden Exzellenzeinrichtungen ist die Universität bestens aufgestellt, um auch in der dritten Förderlinie mit einem Zukunftskonzept erfolgreich zu sein.

Auch personell werden die Kräfte verstärkt. In der gestrigen Sondersenatssitzung der CAU wurde Professor Dr. Thomas Bosch zum dritten Vizepräsidenten ernannt. Professor Bosch ist ab sofort für das Zukunftskonzept und die internationalen Beziehungen zuständig.
Professor Bosch betont: “Die CAU baut ihre erfolgreiche Strategie zum Zukunftskonzept aus. Sie bezieht sich dabei konsequent auf ihr Motto ‘vernetzt denken – vernetzt handeln’ und integriert ganz bewusst alle Mitarbeiter und Mitarbeiterinnen aus Forschung, Lehre und Verwaltung in die Gestaltung des Konzeptes. Darüber hinaus wurde im März 2010 an der CAU die Kiel Alliance for Research and Education (KARE) gegründet. In KARE versammelt die CAU ihre Partner in den außeruniversitären Institutionen wie auch in der Stadt Kiel, um gemeinsam für die Exzellenzinitiative und das Ziel, zu einer der führenden Universitäten Nordeuropas zu werden, zu planen.”
